Project Summary

The SECU MD Marketing Team reached out to me with a need to redesign their Virtual Financial Center Webpage. This page contained legacy branding and illustrations, was challenging to navigate, and felt disjointed from the rest of the website.

The VFC is a clear differentiator for SECU when compared all of their competitors as users are able to schedule virtual appointments with a live teller, (in video or audio format), online. Most other competitors only allow for in-person meetings so making this experience feel unified to the site was important.

Defining Organizational Needs

Following a thorough discussion of project expectations, timeline, etc. it became clear to me that the UX maturity of the organization was low - i.e. no Figma component library, no UX team, no competitive analysis, etc. With this knowledge in-hand, I wanted to:

  1. Build out a component library that I could hand off to the development team and any future designers involved in SECU’s work.

  2. Compile a visual website audit of all pages in Desktop and Mobile across SECU’s website (roughly 200 pages).

  3. Create a Competitive Analysis of what others are doing (if anything) for virtual appointment scheduling.

  4. The newly-designed Virtual Financial Center Webpage in Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile formats to be handed off to developers.

I quoted the organization at 12 Hours of work and planned to complete all of the above tasks in that amount of time.

Preparation for Design Work

The next steps of this project involved building out a Component and Branding Library according to observed brand components on the website, Auditing the entire existing website for a living visual website audit document, and building a Competitive Analysis of other Bank Userflows through a meeting scheduling experience.

The New Virtual Financial Center Page Design

We arrived at a final design that allowed for SECU MD’s Virtual Financial Center to truly feel like one cohesive experience. I utilized elements that I had observed across other pages of the website, used appropriate colors, fonts, etc. and was able to recommend photography that fit SECU’s brand standards. Lastly, I was able to build out the appropriate figma components for the website in a figma file for the organization as well as the visual website audit, and a comprehensive competitive analysis of appointment scheduling across the industry.
